THE EVOLUTION OF THE ROMBOARD
For more than 20 years I have been providing patented solutions to problems that require low coefficient of friction by the use of many different types of plastics.
When I had my right hip resurfaced in May 2010, I found my post operative rehabilitation therapy hindered by friction as I tried to move my leg, bend my knee and slide my foot. So I had delivered from our manufacturing facility to my home a particular type of Polyolefin sheet that had excellent abrasion resistance and a very low coefficient of friction that allowed me to immediately start moving my leg and foot. As my rehabilitation exercises now became much easier I found myself much more enthusiastic and dedicated to my therapy and strengthening.
After a couple weeks when I was mobile and strong enough to start going to therapy at the clinic, the Physical Therapists that were assisting me at home encouraged me to bring the board I had designed with me to the clinic. As my therapy advanced, I redesigned it several times. Design changes included, comfortable hand cut outs to allow ease in carrying, a non slip backing that would hold it in place on the clinical table during exercises. But the most important design I added was various band attachment locations to allow me to continue with more advanced strengthening exercises that normally would require other equipment.
It didn't take long for me to recognize that I had designed an innovative Patient Therapy, Range Of Motion (P.T. ROM) exercising tool that had unlimited uses in the clinical setting.
I am proud to say that every purchaser of this new and exciting product has found it more useful than they had ever imagined. It is exciting to hear back from all our ROMâ„¢ Board users as to how it has been helpful to so many, both patients and therapists alike.
I look forward to you becoming one of our users and the stories of encouragement you could share.
Thank you for reading how the ROMâ„¢ Board came to be.
